Paulette Singley Published in Clocks and Clouds

Professor Paulette Singley was recently published in Clocks and Clouds, a book that explores the architectural office of Escher GuneWardena, through her chapter titled “Catoptric Boxes, Atmospheres, and Exhibitions.”

Founded in 1996 in Los Angeles, Escher GuneWarden’s work reflects the background and broad cultural ambitions of their principals Swiss-born Frank Escher who studied at ETH Zürich and Ravi GuneWardena, originally from Sri Lanka, who received his education at California State Polytechnic University. The firm reached international recognition through a range of projects: commercial spaces treated as conceptual art works; hillside residences representing poetic responses to particular site conditions; work in historic preservation including such icons as the Eames House and John Lautner’s Chemosphere in Los Angeles. Their collaborations with artists such as Sharon Lockhart, Mike Kelley and Stephen Prina testify to their presence in the art world.

Paulette is an internationally known architectural historian whose work expands the disciplinary limits of architecture across diverse subject matter such as food, film, and fashion. Paulette was recently offered the position of Visiting Professor in the Department of Architecture in the College of Architecture, Art and Design at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) for the 2017-2018 academic year.
