Woodbury University’s United Nations Student Association (UNA) sees all students on campus as potential future leaders. This understanding drives the UNA’s mission. As new president Eric Gomez says, “It is important students are aware and engaged with issues that are likely to impact their careers to ensure we have capable and knowledgeable leaders.” A dedicated focus of the UNA is climate justice. The association intends to work in conjunction with the UN to support and meet its 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Some of the goals include reducing poverty and hunger, improving the environment, and strengthening legal institutions.
This year, Woodbury’s UNA will collaborate with leaders and changemakers by hosting speaking engagements and on-campus activities to create a safer local community, as well as potentially producing a weekly radio podcast to address current events. On October 21, 2021, the UNA is organizing a mask-making event in collaboration with the Art Club, where students can decorate paper, plastic, or cloth masks to add some individuality to what is normally a rather plain and uniform garment. To stay up-to-date on UNA events, students can follow the UNA on Instagram @woodbury.una.
The UNA meets every other Thursday via Zoom at the link below. Everyone is welcome to join and participate!
