The School of Business Announces Return of VITA Program

The School of Business is pleased to announce the return of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA is an IRS initiative that aims to support free simple tax preparation for low-income residents. The IRS has operated the VITA program for over 50 years. After a brief hiatus due to the pandemic, the School of Business is pleased to welcome VITA back to our campus this spring. The program is open to individuals making less than $57,000 per year within the Woodbury and local communities.

VITA will be held every Saturday between February 4-April 8, 2023, from 9:00am to 5:00pm on the Woodbury campus. The program is staffed by IRS-certified accounting student volunteers, along with Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). Accounting Department co-coordinator and Associate Professor of Accounting Dr. Alice Shiotsugu serves as the advisor for the VITA program here at Woodbury. Prior to teaching at Woodbury, Dr. Shiotsugu had over 20 years of experience working for the IRS, where her roles included Internal Revenue Agent, Internal Revenue Agent Supervisor, and Program Manager. Dr. Shiotsugu also owns her own CPA and Tax practice.

Individuals who wish to book a virtual or contactless appointment to utilize VITA’s services this spring should email [email protected]. Individuals wishing to make an appointment via telephone may call (818) 394-3329 from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Saturdays only. VITA participants will be asked to drop off the necessary documentation to complete their tax returns in a locked drop box located at the front security gate at Woodbury’s Burbank campus located at 7500 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank, CA, 91504.
