FAQ

Our hope is that this FAQ will provide clarification around some questions you may have.

The Woodbury University location in Burbank is a signature campus in a premiere location with  the best facilities for you to pursue the skills you desire. The integration with the University of Redlands will enhance investment in these facilities while providing even more opportunity to pursue other educational pursuits if you so desire, whether it’s in Burbank, Redlands or other campuses in the University of Redlands family.

The curriculum and criteria for graduation will not change while you’re enrolled. Our belief is that it will only be enhanced.

We will eventually provide opportunities for cross-campus educational experiences, but you won’t be required to attend classes in Redlands while you’re enrolled at Woodbury.

Admission requirements that you’ve been discussing with our admissions office will remain the same.

Your net cost to attend Woodbury would not change in subsequent years other than any changes in annual adjustments.

We’re currently working through the details, but our intent is that the Woodbury brand is maintained in some form.

Any transfer of credits accepted by Woodbury would be honored by the University of Redlands.

The University of Redlands offers more than 40 undergraduate and 30 graduate programs that are backed by two dozen accreditation and affiliations. Some of their largest programs include Global Business, Biology, Psychology, and the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies, where students get to build their curriculum and major.

As of June 3, 2024, the University of Redlands became the “parent” organization to Woodbury University. This is called a “Change of Control.” We filed new Articles of Incorporation with the State of California to make this new relationship between the two institutions official.

Pre-merger: A Woodbury student could enroll in a course at Redlands, and vice versa, as they would at any other campus.

Post-merger: Students will be able to register for courses listed on different campuses or take any major or programs at either campus. Their ability to participate in each school’s programs and classes will depend upon if they want to move and take all of their classes at the other location or if they wish to take courses offered by each campus. A student’s ability to take courses at both campuses in any given semester will depend on how the class is delivered (in person, online or a hybrid) and if in person, the logistical considerations of traveling between the campuses.

For semester-long Study Abroad programs offered through Redlands, Woodbury students would apply, enroll, and transfer the credits back, as they would with any course or study abroad experience at another university. Woodbury students would pay tuition (WU rate), room and board (UR rates), which can be covered by financial aid in the usual way. Some costs, for example international flights, passport fees, and international insurance cannot be covered using financial aid, but can be covered by competitive scholarships and grants.

For short-term, faculty-led course, students would need to apply through processes specific to each campus, as courses may have pre-requisites or requirements depending on the focus of the course. pay their tuition, room and board, and other costs in the usual way, using any available financial aid to cover tuition and costs, including any special course fees, if applicable.

Woodbury students could enroll in a Redlands May Term if it does not conflict with their Woodbury schedule. Student Financial Services would have to evaluate aid availability for the student, because the Woodbury Spring semester ends before May Term ends. Also, the Woodbury student would have to pay any course-specific fees (such as for travel-related costs for travel courses, etc.).

Until we are fully merged, this will not be possible. Once we are fully merged, we will explore models for offering architecture courses at the Redlands campus to expand options for students. Also, we will explore ways to integrate GIS skills into Woodbury programs through faculty training.

Woodbury has an Interdisciplinary Studies major that is also self-designed, but it is not a living/learning community. Since Johnston as such is defined by the living/learning community on the Redlands campus, a student at the Woodbury campus would not be able to participate in Johnston at Redlands unless they transferred to the Redlands campus.

Currently, they need to operate separately; however, we continue to engage and discuss opportunities to collaborate.
