Professor


Joan Marques, PhD, EdD, serves as Dean and Professor of Management at Woodbury University’s School of Business. She holds a PhD from Tilburg University and an Ed.D. from Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology; an MBA from Woodbury University, and a BSc in Business Economics from MOC, Suriname. She completed the AACSB Bridge to Business Post-Doctoral Program at Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business.

Dr. Marques teaches courses related to leadership, ethics, and organizational behavior in the MBA and BBA programs, and presents regularly at academic and professional workshops. Her research interests focus on workplace spirituality, ethical leadership, Buddhist psychology in management, and leadership awareness. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management Development, Journal of Organizational Analysis, Corporate Governance, International Journal of Organizational Analysis, Journal of Communication Management, Business and Society, Human Resource Development Quarterly, Leadership & Organization Development Journal, and more.

Joan has (co-)authored and co-edited 31 books so far, all of which aimed at enhancing readers’ awareness and improving the quality of their lives. A majority of these books serve as main or supplementary material in university management and leadership courses or workshops, while others focus on a broader audience. Her most recent edited works are Social Entrepreneurship and Corporate Social Responsibility (Springer, 2020 – with Dr. Satinder Dhiman), and The Routledge Companion to Leadership (Taylor & Francis, 2020). Her most recent single-authored book is, Lead with Heart in Mind (Springer/Copernicus, 2019).
