Annual Fashion Runway Benefit

About the Benefit

Woodbury University’s annual fashion runway serves as a platforms from our student designers to exhibit their creativity but also functions as a real-world simulation of the fashion industry. This event involves our students in every stage, from conceptualization to execution, allowing them to navigate the complexities of a high-profile runway show. By actively participating in tasks such as garment preparation, model coordination, and event management, students gain invaluable practical skills that transcend the classroom. This event becomes a transformative educational journey ensuring that our students graduate with a holistic grasp of the industry they are poised to enter.

Parallel universe: (in fantasy or science fiction) a world conceives of as coexisting with and having certain similarities to the known world but different from it in some fundamental way. (Oxford Dictionary)

Art/design is the ability to objectively consider ideas that contradict each other”. Parallel design is the process of designing several solutions for the same design problem. The idea is to explore multiple options and approaches to produce more valuable outputs.

In our exploration of the theme Parallel Universes, we will not only be looking at multiple options and approaches, but we will also look at parallels from both a formal and conceptual perspectives. What happens when we use contrasting perspectives and concepts together? What happens when we use the elements and variables of design to create contrast, emphasis, and dynamic form within the figure ground relationship? And this year, in collaboration with the Fashion Design Department, we’ll examine the above in relation to human body as well.
