WSOA Alumni Feature in Vogue Arabia: Abdalla Almulla

Abdalla Almulla BArch ‘14 Architect and founder of Mula Design Practice

We’re thrilled to share that Abdalla Almulla (B.Arch ’14), the visionary Emirati architect and founder of Mula Design Practice in Dubai, has been featured in Vogue Arabia! Abdalla’s architectural journey began at Woodbury School of Architecture (WSOA) in San Diego, where his deep fascination with geometry and spatial exploration earned him both the ‘Grand Critique Faculty Choice Award’ and the ‘Best Degree Project Award’ for his groundbreaking research.

In the article “6 Regional Product Designers Blending Heritage with Innovation” by Jumana Abdel-Razzaq in Vogue Arabia, Abdalla shares, “My journey into architecture began during my studies at Woodbury University in San Diego, where I developed a deep interest in geometry and how it can be used to shape spaces. Founding Mula was a natural step in continuing that passion.” In 2018, Abdalla launched Mula, a design studio that merges geometry, functionality, and local heritage. As highlighted in the same Vogue Arabia article, Abdalla’s work beautifully combines modern aesthetics with traditional influences, seen in standout projects like the Hermès Petit H installation at The Dubai Mall and the Of Palm pavilion at Dubai Design Week. The pavilion showcased the sustainable use of palm trees to create an innovative and striking natural structure, reinforcing Abdalla’s commitment to sustainability and cultural authenticity.

Last November, Abdalla unveiled Stoot, a new pavilion at Dubai Design Week, continuing his exploration of geometry and spatial dynamics. His design philosophy, rooted in constant innovation, is deeply connected to his formative experiences at WSOA, as emphasized in Vogue Arabia. 6 Regional Product Designers Blending Heritage with Innovation (vogue.me)
