CONNECT & REFLECT: A School of Business Happy Hour

On Thursday, January 26, more than 90 members from the local community gathered in the School of Business Atrium to celebrate the new year and the start of the spring semester. The purpose of “Connect & Reflect” was to provide business-minded people at different stages in their learning process and career an opportunity to network and establish lucrative connections.

Inspired by the enthusiasm and positive feedback received from the Creative Minds Conference last November, Dean Joan Marques and Assistant Director of Outreach for the School of Business Jack Condon planned this event, which also embodies a new trend for the School of Business: bringing together business alumni, students, and faculty with business-minded students and faculty from local community colleges and high schools. In her introductory remarks, Dr. Marques emphasized the importance of the two most important aspects of advancement: acquiring the highest education possible and establishing valuable connections. Prof. Condon kept the atmosphere upbeat by fueling constructive conversations.

Throughout the event, many participants raved about the great atmosphere and the contacts they established. Old friends that had not seen each other in years caught up and updated each other on their whereabouts. Conversations varied from study plans to career tips, from recollections of great class experiences to upcoming social events, and from inquiries about enrollment opportunities to conversations about new certificate and degree programs in the School of Business.

Several guests became the lucky winners of gift baskets and goody bags, and everyone left the event with new insights and great connections added to their personal contact lists.
