Bachelor of Architecture alumnus Erik Miller (class of 2007) is running for Long Beach City Council.
After graduating from Woodbury University, Miller began his professional career as a designer with Steinberg Architects in Los Angeles. After working for multiple architecture firms Miller transitioned into the non-profit sector.
Currently a director with Operation Jump Start, he leads a city wide mentoring program that provides academic support, comprehensive resources and mentoring needed to enable youth in underserved communities to reach their full potential through a college education. Miller has led successful program partnerships with multiple youth agencies throughout the city of Long Beach, California. In 2014, Erik was selected to the prestigious Leadership Long Beach Institute.
In an email to our school, Erik Miller writes, “It’s not often in life that we are presented with opportunities to make a difference in the lives of your friends and neighbors. I’m proud to share that I am stepping up to make a personal commitment to public service. Central Long Beach has a poverty rate over 40 percent and unemployment is nearly double the rest of the City. I know I can change this reality by partnering with small businesses to hire more local residents, focus on building affordable housing developments in the District and bringing additional public safety resources to the 6th District so residents and businesses feel safe.”
The primary election will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. We wish him best of luck!
