Laura Bouwman is principal alongside Andrew Zago of Bouwman Zago, an architecture practice based in Los Angeles known for its open-ended, creative inquiry into the intersections of art, architecture, and urbanism. The firm’s work spans the U.S., Mexico, and Korea, with notable projects including the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Arup Downtown Los Angeles, the Fine Venture office tower in Seoul, and the upcoming Blossom Billboard in West Hollywood on the Sunset Strip. Ms. Bouwman is also cofounder of Studio Tecnico with Andrew Zago, which mines the creative corners of their architectural practice.
A native of Detroit, Ms. Bouwman holds both a Bachelor of Science in Art and Design (1998) and a Master of Architecture (2003) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to joining Zago Architecture, the predecessor firm to Bouwman Zago, she worked in the Paris office of the Renzo Piano Building Workshop on the Morgan Library Expansion in New York. She is a registered architect in California and Michigan and has taught design studios at The Ohio State University, UC Berkeley, and the University of Michigan as well as structures courses at Cal Poly Pomona.
