Woodbury University is pleased to announce that it has appointed Heather Flood as the Dean of the School of Architecture. Her appointment is effective as of December 1st, 2022.
Heather is an inspiring leader and designer, as well as a passionate advocate of design education who works to construct curricula and culture that nurture talent. As Founder and Principal of the architectural design firm F-lab, Heather’s work has been published and exhibited internationally. In previous roles, Heather worked in the offices of Murphy, Burnham, and Buttrick Architects (New York), HOLST Architecture (Portland), and Roto Architects (Los Angeles). Heather holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture — where she graduated with honors and received the Henry Adams Medal as the top-ranking graduate student — in addition to a Bachelor of Art degree from Michigan State University.
Heather has served as the Interim Dean for the School of Architecture since the Fall of 2021, working closely with Administration and the WSOA Chairs to bring awareness to the School of Architecture programs, which include six STEM degree programs in Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, Sustainable Practices, Computer Science Design Computation, and Applied Computer Science Media Arts.
During that time, Heather has developed a strong workplace culture through her positive attitude, unparalleled professionalism, clear communication, collaborative skills, and commitment to facilitating new opportunities for academic growth and professional achievement.
Heather was recently featured in an Archinect interview, which highlighted her background, her views on the current state of architectural education, and her thoughts on how she plans to change it. For Heather, it’s important to challenge traditional pathways for students and to ensure that pedagogical models are not only accessible but customizable to fit the interests of developing students. “I’m grateful to be part of a School that embraces change, difference, and choice,” Heather recently stated about her appointment. “The exceptional faculty, administrators, and staff at Woodbury School of Architecture instill excellence while cultivating independence empowering students to think and make the world as it should be.”
“I am confident that Heather Flood is someone who can work closely with the department chairs to lead WSOA beyond solely being a school of architecture,” said Michele A. Starkey, Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs.
Please join us in extending our congratulations to Heather!
