Urban Studies Partners with Global Hunger Foundation

Professor Emily Bills’ students in the class Food and the City volunteered at MEND in Pacoima and Burbank Temporary Aid Center in Burbank as the culminating activity in a semester-long project exploring philanthropy and “smart giving.” The Urban Studies program partnered with the Global Hunger Foundation, which provided each class section with $1,000 to award to a local hunger abatement charity. URBS students were inspired by what they learned from the process. As one student stated, “This project was really valuable in terms of being able to see with my own eyes how much the issues [discussed in class] of food justice, food scarcity, food waste, and labeling can affect communities.”
