The Nan Rae Gallery at Woodbury University is pleased to present an exhibition curated by Doug Harvey titled: practice, Practice, practice: Abstract Spirituality in Contemporary Los Angeles Painting, Sculpture and Performance.

Doug Harvey is a multi disciplinary aficionado of our current collective cultural zeitgeist. Art, music, literature and the flotsam and jetsam of popular culture are all within his orbit to create art, write, curate exhibitions, or compose music.
This exhibition is a contemporary riff on the seminal Maurice Tuchman – curated Spiritual in Art, Abstract Painting 1890-1985 behemoth blockbuster exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1986. Spirituality in this exhibition is not about the “canon of art” functioning as spiritual inspiration (what the curator identifies as the “Church of Art”). Rather, the artist’s in this exhibition create art that is linked to existing religious systems and is directly related to their personal spiritual practice.

Participating artists include:
Dina Abdulkarim, Ryan Callis, Linda Day, June Edmonds, David McDonald, Khang Nguyen, Rebecca Niederlander, Kenneth Ober, Mary Anna Pomonis. Lorenzo Hurtado Segovia, and Dani Tull.
