The College of Liberal Arts would like to acknowledge outstanding graduates who have paid forward their academic knowledge by assisting their fellow students as part of CoLA’s Tutoring Services.

Both Ellie Poulin and Maddy Ramirez started working as tutors before the global pandemic and had the flexibility and perseverance to continue in that role as the university went online and students experienced incredible challenges. We are proud of their accomplishments and their dedication to helping others.

A published poet, Ellie has been a tutor in the Writing Center since spring 2018.

“Ellie wasn’t only an excellent, caring tutor, but she also created our Writing Center and Math, Science, and Subject Center’s websites, and an array of gorgeous posters to promote our events,” says Laurel DiGangi, Coordinator of Tutoring Services

Ellie will be graduating with a BA in graphic design. After graduation, she will be looking for a graphic design position and continuing to improve her portfolio.

Maddy has been a tutor in our Math, Science, and Subject Center since Fall 2019, helping students in math courses and computer programs such as Revit, Rhino, and Grasshopper.

One student she tutored said, “Maddy was very helpful and patient, even when I struggled.”

Maddy enjoys painting, drawing, and volunteering with the High Desert Mutual Aid group, which provides support for homeless populations. She will be graduating with a Bachelor in Architecture degree. After graduation, she plans to work at an architectural firm with the goal of becoming a licensed architect and working with green design.
