Faculty Member Rachel Allen Among Four Finalists To Reimagine Pershing Square

Woodbury School of Architecture adjunct faculty member Rachel Allen, founder of Rachel Allen Architecture, was among the four design team finalists that were selected to reimagine Pershing Square, L.A.’s 150-year-old public park in downtown Los Angeles.

Allen is part of the proposal submitted by Agence TER with SALT Landscape Architects. Paris-based Agence TER’s landscapes dot Europe and have reached the Middle East and French Guyana. See their proposal.

A press release by Pershing Square Renew and Councilmember Jose Huizar lists all four design finalists: The “Local Force”: SWA with Morphosis; The “Landscape Starchitect”: James Corner Field Operations with Frederick Fisher & Partners; The “Globetrotters”: Agence TER with SALT Landscape Architects; and The “Wild Card”: wHY with Civitas.

Councilmember Jose Huizar is quoted as follows: “As our exceptionally talented design teams are narrowed down to these four, Pershing Square is one step closer to once again becoming the focal point of life, commerce and civic engagement in Downtown Los Angeles.”

KCRW’s Frances Anderton interviewed Edwardo Santana, Executive Director of Pershing Square Renew, after the finalists were announced. Read the full interview here.
