Chu+Gooding: Hollywood Hills home renovation on Elle Decor cover

Elle Decor’s September Special issue features Chu+Gooding Architects’ major renovation of a 1970s-era Hollywood Hills home. Owner and renowned syndicated photographer James White teamed with principals Annie Chu, faculty member at Woodbury School of Architecture, and Michael Matteucci to create environments and custom furnishings with a nod to the generosity of scale and gesture of 30s and 40s Italian Fascist era architecture.

The overall atmosphere creates a cohesive backdrop that anticipates the collection of art and decorative objects reflecting both the refined and irreverent eye of the owner. The article also features a large-scale custom wool rug by Dutch fiber artist Claudy Jongstra, who held a special interior architecture workshop for Woodbury University’s School of Architecture in 2013.

Chu+Gooding’s pool design for the Hollywood Hills house and an introduction to the firm’s work can also be seen in the magazine’s Scene + Heard section (pages 40 and 42).
