Dear Woodbury Community:
I’m pleased to announce the launch of Woodbury’s 10% Federal and State Grant Match program, an initiative that aligns with the University’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy.
The objective of this new initiative is to increase Institutional Aid to students from low-income families by providing need-based aid tied to federal and state programs, such as Pell and Cal Grants. We believe that this will increase access to our institution for underrepresented students and increase the diversity of our student body.
Woodbury already discounts its average tuition and fees by over 30% with merit-based grants and other financial assistance, and is proud to expand Institutional Aid to students with the greatest financial need. Through our ongoing new program, Woodbury will match 10% of federal and state grants to new undergraduate students, with a GPA of 2.5 to 3.39, starting the Fall 2021 semester. In addition to need-based aid, these students will also be eligible for Woodbury’s merit-based scholarships of up to $10,000/year.
Based on our 2019/2020 new student enrollment, the 10% Federal and State Grant Match program will benefit approximately 233 students, increasing Woodbury’s need-based aid to about $1.5 – $2 million per entering class.
Studies routinely show that obtaining a higher education is critical to improving economic mobility, and Woodbury believes it is our responsibility, as part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, to make it possible for any student to pursue a higher education regardless of socioeconomic status. We realize it is even more critical to extend aid and remove financial barriers for students and families who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic devastation.
