Woodbury architecture students worked with members of the Las Vegas Art Museum’s Executive Board and architecture professor Eric Olsen to envision a significant, permanent Art Museum near Downtown Las Vegas. Serving residents while maximizing its audience and notoriety by engaging the valley’s nearly 43 million annual visitors, the Museum will be located at Symphony Park, adjacent to the iconic downtown and alongside The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, DISCOVERY Children’s Museum and the Frank Gehry-designed Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.
In early February, studio participants conducted fieldwork research in Las Vegas and developed a number of different proposals –ranging from iconic and figural buildings to phenomenal and atmospheric infrastructures –in response to prompts found through their close on-the-ground reading of the urban situation in Las Vegas as well as archival research into the work of luminaries like Dave Hickey, and Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown.
On April 28, architecture students Barsuren Battugs, Dylan Bachar, Teona Chan, Michael Chin, Santiago Fernandez, Linet Ghukasyan, Christina Hacopian, Carlos Moreno, Jennifer Partlow, Eddie Ramirez, and Myint Tun, presented the results of their semester-long design research to a panel of architects, academics and community leaders at the Historic Fifth Street School in Downtown Las Vegas.
