Patrick Nickell

Associate Professor in Design Foundation and Director of the Nan Rae Gallery Patrick Nickell received a BA in Art from Linfield College 1983 and his M.F.A. in Sculpture from Claremont Graduate University in 1985. In 2003 a traveling mid-career survey of his work titled “Patrick Nickell, Built for Speed, A Sculpture Survey”, chronicled his early work as a sculptor over a fifteen-year period 1988–2003, this exhibition originated the Luckman Gallery, California State University, Los Angeles traveling to the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, Utah State University and the University of Texas, San Antonio, Department of Art and Art History, Art Gallery. Patrick Nickell’s work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA); Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); Santa Barbara Museum of Art; Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art at Utah State University; Berkeley Art Museum, University of California. Laguna Beach Museum of Art;  Solo exhibitions include: 2004 Acme, Los Angeles, 2005 College of Creative Studies, University of California at Santa Barbara, 2006 Dust Gallery, Las Vegas NV. and the Rosamund Felsen Gallery in Santa Monica, CA. 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2014. Significant group exhibitions include Curt Marcus Gallery in New York, Galerie Markant Netherlands, Galleri Tommy Lund in Odense Denmark, Seattle Center on Contemporary Art, Hales Gallery, London. In 2014 Patrick Nickell was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship.
