Lecture Series: Cathrine Veikos | March 22

March 22, 2016 @ 6:30 pm

Join us for our 2016 Spring Lecture Series. Our next architecture lecture on the Los Angeles campus takes place on Tuesday, March 22.
The Chair of Interior Design program at the California College of the Arts, Cathrine Veikos, will talk about her work.

Cathrine Veikos is an associate professor of architecture and the chair of CCA’s Interior Design Program. Her scholarship engages image theory, representation and issues related to the design of surfaces, including the nature and use of ornament and the production of perceptual and atmospheric effects. She is author of the book, Lina Bo Bardi: The Theory of Architectural Practice, a translation and introduction to the writing of the Italo-Brazilian architect, Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992). She teaches design studios and seminars in the Interior Design and Architecture Programs at CCA.
“In design, what we make is always mediated by what we see. How we represent our ideas — not only to others as design communication, but also to ourselves — is an important part of our own creative process.” ~Cathrine Veikos

Veikos was recently invited to participate in the international symposium, Lina Bo Bardi 100 at the Architekturmuseum der Technischen Universität München. Her essay on Bo Bardi’s iconic building, SESC- Pompeia (1977-86), in São Paulo, Brazil, was published in the catalog for the exhibition, Lina Bo Bardi 100: Brazil’s Alternative Path to Modernism (Hatje Cantz Verlag, Ostfildern, 2014).

She is the recipient of three Cass Gilbert Fellowships at the University of Minnesota College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, a Rotch Traveling Studio Scholarship, and an award from the Graham Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts.

Veikos is a registered architect and worked in the offices of Roland Simounet (Paris), Jean-Paul Viguier (Paris), and for Bruce Graham at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (Chicago) before becoming principal of atelier4Architecture (a4A), an international firm she co-founded and lead between 1999-2004. She is currently building an interior design practice, Minium, in the San Francisco Bay area.
