A Message for Applicants Affected by California’s Wildfires

Woodbury is committed to supporting applicants who have been affected by these events

The Woodbury community is deeply saddened by the destruction caused by the fires throughout California, and we would like to express our heartfelt sympathy and concern to all of those who have been impacted by these terrible events.

If you are an applicant who has been affected by the recent wildfires, here are some of the ways that we can help to assist you in the process:

Requesting an extension and fee waiver: If you are unable to complete your application by March 1, you may request an extension by sending an email to sabrina.taylor@woodbury.edu with the following subject line: “Extension Request – Weather/Fire Event

An application fee waiver will be sent to you via email.

Students affected by recent natural disasters are encouraged to include relevant circumstances in the essay/statement section of the application. Include details such as inability to complete specific courses, a mid-year school change, or other conditions that may affect your academic profile.

We understand that the fires may result in significant changes in your or your family’s financial circumstances for the upcoming year. We strongly encourage you to complete the financial aid application (FAFSA) for the 2019-2020 academic year as soon as possible, but definitely by the priority filing date of March 2, 2019.  The FAFSA requires 2017 income and the value of current assets. However, if there are changes in your family’s income or assets that you believe are not reflected on your application, or if you have any special circumstance that may affect your eligibility for financial aid, please contact the Woodbury’s Office of Financial aid by calling 818.252.5273 or emailing finaid@woodbury.edu.   You may be able to complete an appeal process that allows families to provide information that can be considered when determining financial aid eligibility. Follow any instructions you receive and be prepared to write a letter explaining your situation and to provide any written documentation to support your request for a review.

We hope this information is helpful during this difficult time.
