Joey Curtis, co-writer of Blue Valentine (2010), visited the Woodbury University campus on Tuesday, February 25 for a Q&A about his work on the film and his career.
Blue Valentine is directed by Derek Cianfrance and stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. Derek Cianfrance’s second feature film, The Place Beyond the Pines (2013), was released this past year and starred Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes.
Joey Curtis spoke with students about his collaboration process with Derek Cianfrance, which started in 1998, when the duo produced Brother Tied (1998), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2003, Joey Curtis wrote and directed his debut feature film, Quattro Noza (2003), and later reteamed with Derek Cianfrance on Blue Valentine.
Joey Curtis discussed the making of the critically-acclaimed Oscar-nominated film. In the discussion, he discussed the arduous eleven year process from writing the initial drafts to the finished film. Blue Valentine premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010 and received an Oscar nomination for Michelle Williams in 2011.
The Q&A was scheduled as part of Rethinking Media Series, a course offered by Armen Karaoghlanian, which features film screenings and Q&As with filmmakers and actors.
