Noted Retail Industry Expert Scott Kohno Elected to Woodbury University Board of Trustees
Scott Kohno, president and managing partner of The Retail Element, an international retail consulting company specializing in retail growth strategies, branding and design, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of Woodbury University, the university announced today.
“Scott brings to our Board unique marketing expertise that will help us grow our university,” said Woodbury University President Luis Maria R. Calingo, PhD. “His exceptional experience in branding organizations and launching new businesses, nationally and internationally, will be a valuable asset to our strategic planning, as we move forward in expanding our programs to a wider populace.”
Kohno’s company uses a unique and proprietary “Wall of Ideas” approach in creating a 360 degree view and strategy of a client’s brand. The Wall of Ideas covers all key elements ranging from competitive positioning, customer service, merchandise strategy and environmental design.
“My passion is digging deep into understanding what clients really want and to implement plans that exceed their expectations,” Kohno said. “I want to utilize that same passion in contributing to Woodbury’s goals and objectives.”
Kohno maintains a staff of brand strategists, graphic designers, interior architects and designers, marketing professionals and merchandisers who carefully craft the “ultimate client experience” by synchronizing the “honest strengths” of a company with its realistic financial benchmarks and goals. Although the company has concentrated in the retail, food and consumer product industries, its services are also appropriate for public and government entities, medical facilities, hotels, transportation and educational institutions.
Kohno has worked with small start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, fixing businesses, turning around divisions and launching new companies, with the ultimate goal of creating shareholder value. As a respected expert in the retail field, he has addressed international conferences for the National Retail Federation, International Council of Shopping Centers and Asian Retailers Conference.
Kohno is a featured expert in USA Today, Inc. Magazine and Forbes Magazine, and for the past 10 years, has been an expert juror for the Global Innovator Award at the International Housewares Show, which awards the top innovative retailer award from around 25 countries worldwide.
Kohno earned his MBA at Pepperdine University Graziadio School of Business, and his BA in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
