KCET’s Val Zavala to Speak at Leadership Burbank Graduation
Woodbury University will be the site of the Wednesday, May 15 Leadership Burbank Class of 2013 graduation ceremony, featuring remarks by Val Zavala of KCET.
Leadership Burbank is a community-based organization that offers a nine-month leadership training program for people who live or work in Burbank. The Leadership Burbank program is facilitated by the Department of Organizational Leadership at Woodbury University. Through a hands-on curriculum, leaders and emerging leaders have the opportunity to enhance their personal and professional skills, gain a deeper understanding of community dynamics, and build a network of colleagues and associates throughout the ciy. It is hoped that graduates will use the insights and contacts they develop through this program to enhance performance in their current endeavors and to enrich the community by involvement with local civic, government, business, religious and/or nonprofit groups. Zavala is vice president of news and public affairs at KCET, the nation's largest independent public television station, and anchor of KCET's weekly award-winning newsmagazine, SoCal Connected. She has been at KCET since 1987 playing a vital role in the long-running newsmagazine, Life & Times, as well as other news programs and specials. Her work has won 16 L.A. Area Emmys, eight Golden Mikes and numerous L.A. Press Club awards. During her 23 years at KCET she has covered major issues impacting Southern California politics, education, healthcare, environment, demographics, arts, and culture.
