MCD students in animation, communication, and psychology recently teamed up with counterparts at the “Game On!” program of Hanze University in the Netherlands to design an educational game about peace and social inclusion. The two groups of students worked on the project under the guidance of War Child International (Holland), a non-governmental organization (NGO) whose mission is to provide assistance to children affected by war. Representatives from War Child challenged the students in early 2011 to develop an interactive 2-D game for 10 to 14-year olds that could communicate basic principles of peace and resilience to post-conflict societies. Using a combination of remote collaboration tools like Skype and Adobe Connect, the students successfully met this challenge and have been invited by War Child to expand on the project. The students are pictured at the local town square in Amsterdam.
